Job summary

AMG & Associates, Inc. is seeking an experienced Processing Archivist for a full-time contract to organize, describe, preserve, and provide access to archival collections. You will work with archivists, librarians, and researchers to ensure materials are accurately processed and properly stored.

Responsibilities include creating finding aids, inventories, metadata, and maintaining databases, while applying standards and ensuring confidentiality. Hybrid remote work options may be available.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in History, Archival Studies, Library Science, Information Science, Records Management, or related field.
• 3+ years of professional experience in archival processing, archives management, library collections, or records management.
• Strong understanding of archival arrangement, description, accessioning, preservation, and collection management principles.
• Experience developing finding aids, inventories, catalog records, or descriptive metadata.
• Familiarity with archival standards, cataloging practices, digitization workflows, and preservation procedures.

Responsibilities

• Assess, organize, and describe archival collections, manuscripts, historical documents, photographs, and institutional records.
• Process archival materials from accessioning through arrangement, description, and final storage.
• Develop and maintain finding aids, inventories, catalogs, and descriptive metadata.
• Apply archival standards and procedures for consistent documentation.
• Evaluate preservation needs and appropriate storage conditions.
• Maintain records of collection contents, processing actions, and access restrictions.
• Support digitization by preparing materials for scanning and organizing digital files.
• Maintain archival databases and collection management systems.
• Identify restricted materials and elevate concerns as needed.
• Coordinate with stakeholders to support access and research.
• Assist with acquisition, accessioning, transfer, and management of new collections.
• Ensure materials are stored and processed per policies and preservation guidelines.
• Review and update descriptions, inventories, and archival documentation.
• Support research requests by locating and preparing materials for access.
• Maintain confidentiality for restricted records.
• Identify opportunities to improve workflows and metadata quality.
