Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine seeks a Principal Engineer to lead hands-on software and AI initiatives for pooled and arrayed screening in cell therapy discovery.

You will bridge experimental design with scalable digital solutions, delivering production‑quality software, APIs, and data pipelines while collaborating with scientists, IT, and tech teams across the US. Travel ~10–15% exists.

Qualifications

• Required degree with significant relevant industry experience.
• Experience delivering complex software in data-intensive environments.
• Experience integrating AI/ML models into production systems.
• Strong ability to translate scientific workflows into scalable tech solutions.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the senior software and AI technical expert for high-throughput screening capabilities.
• Define scalable architecture linking automation, instruments, systems, data, and workflows.
• Build applications, APIs, data pipelines, and visualization solutions for cell therapy discovery.
• Develop and deploy AI-enabled capabilities including ML, generative AI, retrieval‑augmented generation.
• Identify opportunities to apply AI/software to improve productivity and decision-making.
• Translate complex experimental processes into maintainable digital solutions.
• Organize screening data and metadata to improve planning and analysis.
• Establish engineering best practices for architecture, testing, and deployment.
• Build cross-functional partnerships and align stakeholders across teams.
• Mentor scientists and engineers in software engineering and AI usage.
