Job summary

The University of Kansas Health System is seeking a Pre-Reg/Pre-Cert Specialist to identify patients eligible for pre-registration, verify demographics and insurance, and enter data into the registration system.

This remote role includes pre-service collections, pre-certification, and contacting employers/insurers to verify coverage and patient liability. You will collaborate with clinics and financial advisors to resolve coverage issues and ensure accurate billing information.

Qualifications

• High School Graduate or GED is required.
• 1 or more years of experience in Epic preferred.
• 1 or more years of prior pre-registration or prior authorization experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Identify patients who qualify for pre-registration for all new and return patients.
• Verify demographic and insurance information and enter into the registration system.
• Perform pre-service collections and documentation when applicable.
• Handle verification and pre-certification, notification and authorization of admissions/outpatient visits.
• Contact employers/insurers for coverage details, patient liability, and billing address for sponsored admissions.
• Run daily reports to retrieve un-contacted patients before service.
• Use worklists to pre-register/pre-certify hospital services.
• Conduct telephone interviews to obtain demographic and payer data for billing.
• Enter patient data into registration systems; ensure MSPQ completion when appropriate.
• Verify third-party payer dependent eligibility, certificate/group numbers, co-pays and deductibles, and statement mailing address.
• Ensure compliance with Medicare/Medicaid and other insurance rules.
• Collaborate with clinics, hospital departments, and financial advisors on coverage issues.
• Reach out to patients, payers, and employers; refer un insured to Financial Advisors.
• Notify provider offices of any restrictions denying services or pre-certification issues.
• Perform professional, clinical and/or technical competencies for the unit/department.
• Other duties as assigned.
