Job summary

Electric Power Engineers (EPE) is seeking a Software Power Systems Engineer to own the platform's power systems analysis engines—from algorithm design to production code. You will contribute to QSTS, hosting capacity, DER interconnection screening, and related analyses within the ENER-i platform.

The role spans design, development, testing, and validation of scalable engines, with potential for Principal-level leadership and cross-team initiatives.

Qualifications

• Master's degree or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering with a power systems focus, or a Bachelor's degree with equivalent experience.
• 3+ years (Engineer III) or 7+ years (Principal) of combined experience in distribution system analysis and software development.
• Expert understanding of three-phase, unbalanced distribution systems, power flow formulations, and distribution planning practices.
• Hands-on experience with at least one distribution modeling tool (OpenDSS/CYME/Synergi/WindMil/GridLAB-D) and its APIs.
• Strong Python software engineering skills beyond scripting, including packaging, typing, automated testing, Git, and CI/CD.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop production-grade Python libraries and services for distribution analysis and power flow orchestration.
• Scale simulations across thousands of feeders and time-series with parallelization and cloud processing.
• Build distribution data models and converters for CYME, Synergi, WindMil, OpenDSS, GIS.
• Develop optimization-based and data-driven methods for hosting capacity and DER valuation.
• Establish test automation, validation suites, and engineering benchmarks.
• Mentor engineers, contribute to code/design reviews, and shape technical roadmap.
