Job summary

DrFirst is seeking a mid-level PostgreSQL Database Administrator to join the System Operations team. You will manage PostgreSQL on AWS Aurora, focus on automation, tuning, and disaster recovery for critical healthcare applications.

Required 4–7 years of DBA experience, strong AWS Aurora and RDS knowledge, and scripting skills in Python or shell. This role offers remote-first work within a healthcare tech environment and opportunities for growth.

Qualifications

• 4-7 years of hands-on experience as a PostgreSQL Database Administrator.
• Strong experience with AWS Aurora PostgreSQL and RDS.
• Proficiency in PostgreSQL performance tuning, query optimization, and troubleshooting.
• Solid understanding of database backup and recovery strategies.
• Experience with database security, user management, and access controls.
• Automation scripting in Python or shell for database tasks.
• Knowledge of AWS services (CloudWatch, Lambda, S3, Systems Manager, IAM).
• Experience with monitoring and alerting tools.
• Strong SQL and relational database concepts.
• Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day operations of PostgreSQL databases in AWS Aurora environments across accounts.
• Perform database setup, configuration, and deployment following best practices.
• Implement and maintain backup and recovery strategies, ensuring data integrity.
• Monitor database health, performance metrics, and capacity planning.
• Execute database upgrades, patches, and migrations with minimal downtime.
• Develop automation scripts for routine database tasks.
• Collaborate with DevOps, NetOps, and development teams.
• Participate in on-call rotation for production support.
