Job summary

The Patrick J. McGovern Foundation is seeking a Portfolio Analyst to support Strategic Capital. You will conduct research, analyze grant opportunities, and prepare materials to guide funding decisions, working closely with the Director of Strategic Capital.

You will monitor AI/data trends, synthesize insights, and help scale philanthropic investments to advance responsible and equitable technology worldwide. This role emphasizes rapid learning, clear communication, and cross-team collaboration.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of relevant work experience in strategy, consulting, or investing.
• Comfort with data and AI topics is a plus, but curiosity and the ability to learn quickly matter most.
• Ability to synthesize information and communicate clear, actionable recommendations.
• Strong relationship management and external stakeholder communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Strategy Development: develop and maintain understanding of grantmaking focus areas and AI/data roles.
• Field sensing and landscape analyses to track AI/data science developments for social impact.
• Produce portfolio retrospectives to inform priorities and learning questions.
• Grant Portfolio Development: research and outreach to identify nonprofits aligned with PJMF strategy.
• Prepare evidence-based recommendation materials for funding decisions.
• Identify opportunities for collaboration across grantees and fields.
• Team Collaboration: provide flexible project-based support to build effective grantmaking practices.
• Summarize learnings from grants and external sources into actionable insights.
