Job summary

Sprezzatura is seeking a Platform Developer to design, develop, and maintain backend services powering VA.gov Platform. You will build secure APIs and reusable backend components, while ensuring reliability, security, and scalable architecture across teams.

The role emphasizes modernizing services, collaborating across engineering groups, and contributing to platform capabilities with strong testing, CI/CD, and incident-response practices.

Qualifications

• Public Trust clearance ability required.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience considered.
• 3–5 years as Backend or Full Stack engineer.
• Strong experience with Ruby and Rails.
• Experience designing RESTful APIs and relational databases.
• Experience integrating external APIs and services.
• Familiarity with background job processing (Sidekiq).
• Experience with Git and GitHub workflows.
• Experience writing automated tests (RSpec).
• Understanding of distributed systems and SOA.
• Experience in Agile environments.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services with Ruby and Rails.
• Build secure, scalable REST APIs for Platform and product teams.
• Develop reusable services and shared backend capabilities.
• Write clean, maintainable, well-tested code.
• Improve backend architecture, scalability, and performance.
• Support CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation.
• Troubleshoot production issues and participate in incident response.
