Job summary

Sprezzatura is seeking a Platform Developer to design, develop, and maintain backend services powering VA.gov Platform. You will build secure, scalable REST APIs and reusable backend capabilities using Ruby on Rails.

The role emphasizes reliability, security, and operational excellence, collaborating with multiple teams. Remote in the U.S. with a base salary of $100,000–$120,000 and a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• 3–5 years of backend or full-stack engineering experience.
• Strong Ruby on Rails experience and API design.
• Experience with PostgreSQL and external API integrations.
• Familiarity with Sidekiq and Git workflows.
• Ability to obtain Public Trust clearance.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services with Ruby on Rails.
• Build secure, scalable REST APIs for Platform and product teams.
• Develop reusable services and shared backend capabilities.
• Write clean, maintainable, well-tested code.
• Improve backend architecture, scalability, and performance.
• Support CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation.
• Troubleshoot production issues and support incident response.
• Monitor service performance and reliability improvements.
