Qualifications

• High School Equivalency / GED required.
• 1+ years medical billing experience in a multi-specialty practice preferred.
• Knowledge of ICD-9 and CPT coding is required.
• Proficient in basic software packages and computer literacy.
• Excellent communication, both written and verbal, with internal/external stakeholders.
• Extensive knowledge of the claims development process and third-party insurance programs.

Responsibilities

• Analyze outstanding insurance accounts daily and follow up by phone or written correspondence.
• Communicate with payors and internal departments to obtain critical information affecting claims.
• Respond to inquiries from the customer service department promptly and professionally.
• Review and correct coding edits and denials as part of the workflow.
• Possibly code ICD-10 from written documentation when required.
• Meet department productivity and quality standards.
• Maintain patient/physician confidentiality and PHI handling per UH policies.
• Provide feedback to UH departments and identify trends in insurance issues.
