Mercury Insurance is seeking an Attorney I to defend personal injury cases in a role that may be remote with in-person requirements in California. Most cases involve values around $50,000 or less, with opportunities for bonus and a company vehicle.

The position emphasizes handling cases from inception through post-trial motions, including bench and jury trials and arbitration, with a compensation package reflecting a competitive base salary and incentive pay.

Qualifications

• Requires a law degree and admission to the bar in the practicing state(s).
• Preferred: law degree from an ABA or state-accredited law school and bar admission in practicing state(s).

Responsibilities

• Comprehensively review new and transfer file assignments with initial evaluation letter to claims and service of initial discovery within 30 days.
• Summarize discovery responses and medical records within 30 days.
• Take and defend depositions of parties, lay witnesses, and expert witnesses and prepare deposition summaries within 20 days.
• Conduct law and motion: legal research, prepare motions, oppositions and replies; appear in court for law and motion.
• Prepare for trial, manage pretrial documents, motions in limine, and conduct all facets of jury trial and posttrial motions.
• Assist in defending the insured, including assignments from senior attorneys.
