Job summary

The American Journalism Project is seeking a dynamic People & Operations Team Intern for an approximate 3-month internship starting in September. This fully remote internship offers hands-on experience in project management, organizational development, and team culture within a national venture philanthropy focused on sustainable local news.

The internship pays $20 per hour for about 20 hours per week, with flexibility based on availability.

Qualifications

• Thoughtful communicator and listener.
• Curious and eager to learn how strong team cultures and organizations are built.
• Proactive, resourceful, and comfortable taking initiative.
• Organized and detail-oriented, especially when juggling different projects.
• Interested in helping teams work efficiently and creating a positive workplace.
• Prior experience in operations, HR, event planning, or team engagement is helpful but not required.
• Interested in exploring emerging technologies, including AI, to improve how teams work and collaborate.
• Passionate about strengthening our democracy.

Responsibilities

• Strengthening team programs and culture.
• Support the design and launch of a lightweight internal knowledge-sharing pilot program that allows staff to offer mentorship on topics they’re passionate about.
• Contribute to planning and energizing team huddles with engaging breakouts, prompts, and ideas that foster connection and collaboration.
• Provide planning and execution support for key internal events, including our annual AJPalooza convening and team retreats.
• Research and evaluate emerging AI tools to enhance team operations and improve the employee experience.
