Job summary

Baker Tilly US is seeking a Payroll Director to lead a 10–15 person payroll team within Managed HR Services, reporting to the Principal of MS HRS Payroll & HR. This role drives payroll operations, revenue growth, and the strategic direction of payroll services across client engagements.

You will oversee end-to-end service delivery, coordinate system implementations with ADP and Intuit, and shape scalable processes while guiding remote teams to ensure compliance and client satisfaction.

Qualifications

• Twelve (12) plus years of progressive payroll experience.
• CPP certification is required.
• Bachelor’s degree is required.
• 3–5+ years of people management experience.
• Deep functional knowledge of payroll operations and multi-state payroll requirements.
• Proven ability to lead teams and manage complex payroll environments.
• Experience building systems, processes, and operational infrastructure from scratch.
• Ability to operate autonomously and make independent decisions.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of payroll associates, implementation specialists, and managers (10–15 team members).
• Oversee end-to-end payroll service delivery including processing, review, compliance, issue resolution, and client communication.
• Ensure timely response and resolution of payroll issues in line with service expectations.
• Partner with implementation teams to ensure seamless onboarding and payroll transitions.
• Design, build, and optimize scalable payroll processes and workflows.
• Collaborate with internal and external technology partners to optimize system performance and integrations.
