Job summary

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in HIM or related field, or equivalent experience.
• CPC, CCA, or CCS-P certification required.
• Minimum of 3 years of coding experience.
• Laboratory Pathology coding experience (anatomical ok) for pathology coding.
• Minimum of 1 year experience coding in Pathology.
• Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payer policies; coding compliance.
• Knowledge of CPT and HCPCS, ICD-10, and professional billing guidelines.
• Experience using revenue cycle systems to review queues and resolve edits.

Responsibilities

• Assigns diagnosis and procedure codes to professional billing encounters based on documentation and guidelines.
• Codes moderately complex cases with multiple diagnoses or special documentation.
• Reviews work queues for coding issues and resolves discrepancies.
• Collaborates with providers to clarify documentation for accurate coding and billing.
• Participates in coding quality assurance and complies with federal, state, payer, and organizational guidelines.
• Core Coding Focus: professional fee coding in physician-based environments including CPT, ICD-10-CM, HCPCS, E/M leveling, and documentation review.
