Job summary

University of Mississippi Medical Center seeks a part-time Clinical Documentation Specialist to review inpatient records and promote documentation accuracy. Remote work is available with on-site presence at the UMMC Medical Tower as needed.

The role requires an active RN license and at least two years of nursing experience in acute care or related fields; strong communication and analytical skills and knowledge of ICD-10 guidelines are essential.

Qualifications

• Two years of nursing experience in Acute Care, Utilization Review, Case Management, or Quality Management.
• Valid RN license.
• Preferred: ER/ICU/Med-Surg/Trauma/Surgical Services experience.
• Proficient knowledge of evidence-based clinical guidelines and ICD-10 inpatient coding.

Responsibilities

• Reviews inpatient medical records within 24-48 hours of admission to ensure accuracy and completeness.
• Collaborates with physicians to promote documentation improvement opportunities.
• Forms basic queries to clarify conflicting or nonspecific documentation.
• Identifies and evaluates clinical indicators to support accurate diagnoses.
• Escalates complex cases to Senior CDS staff when needed.
