Job summary

CHRISTUS Health is seeking an Outpatient Coder to maintain ICD-10-CM and CPT coding for all outpatient encounters. You will abstract data into CHRISTUS Health EMR systems and ensure accuracy and timely processing across multiple service lines.

The role requires 2 years outpatient coding experience (preferred), strong communication skills, and the ability to work remotely with minimal supervision.

Qualifications

• High school Diploma or equivalent years of experience required.
• Completion of Accredited Baccalaureate Health Informatics or Health Information Management or an AHIMA approved Coding Certificate Program, preferred.
• Two (2) years of Outpatient coding in an acute care setting preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assign codes for diagnoses, treatments, and procedures according to official guidelines.
• Extracts and abstracts required information into CHRISTUS Health EMR systems.
• Work from coding queue and re-assign accounts as needed.
• Manage accounts on ABS Hold and finalize after corrections.
• Maintain accuracy rate of 95% or higher.
• Meet CHRISTUS Health productivity standards per chart type.
• Adhere to AHIMA Standards of Ethical Coding.
• Query providers for missing or unclear documentation with HIM/Clarifications.
• Participate in internal and external audit discussions.
• Able to work independently in a remote setting.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Manager.
