Job summary

Canonical is seeking an Security Engineering Manager to lead a team shaping the security of Ubuntu and Canonical products. You will mentor engineers, drive vulnerability remediation, and guide new security projects while coordinating with upstream open source projects and customers worldwide.

This remote-first role requires strong leadership and architectural insight. You will collaborate with multiple teams, maintain secure development practices, and help define security strategy while

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or STEM, or equivalent experience.
  • Mastery in at least one programming language (Go, Java, C, Python) with practical on-the-job usage.
  • Excellent English communication, both verbal and written.
  • Proven ability to mentor and develop engineering talent in an agile setting.
  • Experience with security engineering and vulnerability remediation is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a team of engineers, ranging from graduate to senior.
  • Provide technical guidance on vulnerability remediation.
  • Drive the development of new security engineering projects.
  • Work with upstream open source projects on vulnerability lifecycle handling.
  • Coach, mentor, and offer career development feedback.
  • Identify and measure team health indicators.
  • Implement disciplined engineering processes.
  • Represent your team and product to stakeholders, partners, and customers.
  • Develop and evangelise great engineering and organisational practices.
  • Plan and manage progress on agreed goals and projects.
  • Be an active part of the security engineering leadership team, collaborating with other leaders.
