Job summary

System One is seeking a nuclear shielding and criticality engineer for a yearlong contract. The role is primarily shielding-focused, with MCNP 6.2 as the core tool; remote offsite work is supported, and 40-hour weeks apply.

Qualifications

• BS degree in Nuclear Engineering with minimum 15 years of experience.
• MS degree in Nuclear Engineering with minimum 8 years of experience.
• PhD degree in Nuclear Engineering with minimum 5 years of experience.
• Strong MCNP skills and experience with performing radiation shielding calculations for both gammas and neutrons.
• Familiarity with variance reduction using MCNP, and features such as surface source read/write, mesh tallies, and weight windows.
• Experience working in an NQA-1 environment with rigorous quality standards is desirable.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability and professionalism to work within published regulatory guidelines.
• Experience with Attila /Attila4MC and CAD tools (SolidWorks, SpaceClaim) is a plus.
• Strong programming skills in any language, especially Python, is a plus.
• Acts independently and provides technical guidance; mentors less experienced engineers.

Responsibilities

• Perform radiation shielding design and analysis for advanced nuclear reactors, including calculating dose rates, activation rates, neutron fluence rates, and energy deposition rates.
• Develop radiation sources based on material activation analysis for non-fuel in-vessel components.
• Perform criticality calculations and develop upper subcritical limits (USLs).
• Establish and maintain formal documentation of analysis results.
