Job summary

Highland Mortgage is seeking a seasoned Non-QM Underwriter to assess complex income scenarios and render compliant credit decisions. You will work with bank statement, DSCR, P&L, and other documentation to structure workable conditions that meet investor overlays.

The role demands analytical judgment, precise communication, and the ability to manage a pipeline while staying current with evolving non-QM guidelines and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of residential mortgage underwriting experience, including non-QM.
• 5+ years of mortgage underwriting experience.
• Expertise with non-QM programs (bank statements, DSCR, P&L, 1099).
• Strong income calculation skills across all income types, incl. complex self-employment.
• Knowledge of investor guidelines, TRID, ATR/QM, fair lending.
• Analytical judgment with ability to render supportable credit decisions.
• Proficient with LOS platforms and investor portals.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite non-QM loan files to sound, well-documented credit decisions.
• Evaluate borrowers across bank statement, DSCR, P&L, 1099, ITIN programs.
• Calculate qualifying income from all sources, incl. self-employment.
• Review appraisals and documentation for accuracy and risk.
• Issue clear loan conditions and move files to final approval.
• Communicate decisions and conditions to loan officers and staff.
