Job summary

McCarter & English, LLP in the Boston area seeks a New Business Intake Research Analyst to conduct comprehensive background research on prospective clients, entities and individuals, using public records, sanctions lists and business databases. The role supports conflict checks and new matter intake, delivering concise written summaries.

You will coordinate with attorneys and intake staff, manage multiple time-sensitive requests, and help ensure accurate risk assessments.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of experience conducting conflicts/background research, due diligence, or related work.
• Experience using business databases, public records, sanctions, and legal research resources (Lexis, D&B, Bloomberg).
• Ability to identify corporate ownership structures, affiliations, and regulatory matters.
• Excellent written communication and ability to summarize complex findings clearly.

Responsibilities

• Conduct background research on prospective clients, companies, and individuals involved in New Client/New Matter requests.
• Review daily conflicts mailings and identify entries requiring research.
• Coordinate with attorneys, intake personnel and staff to clarify requests and obtain missing information.
• Research affiliates, ownership structures, and related entities for conflict checks.
• Prepare concise research summaries highlighting findings and supporting sources.
• Review completed research for accuracy and formatting before circulation.
• Maintain documentation per firm procedures and meet deadlines.
