Job summary

McCarter & English, LLP is seeking a New Business Intake Research Analyst. This role may be fully remote or hybrid from an office. Salary ranges from $70,000 to $90,000 annually, depending on experience. Background check will be conducted for offers.

The analyst will conduct background research on prospective clients, affiliated entities, and individuals using public records, business databases, and news sources, preparing clear summaries for conflicts professionals and attorneys.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required; information or library science preferred.
• 3–5 years' experience in research, conflicts, due diligence, or related fields.
• Extensive experience with business databases, public records, sanctions, and legal research resources.
• Ability to analyze corporate ownership structures and related entities.
• Strong written communication, accuracy, and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Conduct background research on prospective clients and related entities.
• Review conflicts mailings and identify required background research.
• Coordinate with attorneys and intake staff to clarify requests.
• Research affiliates, owners, executives, and related entities.
• Analyze corporate structures, parent/subsidiary relations, and name variations.
• Verify entity names, addresses, jurisdictions, and status using firm resources.
• Review negative news, litigation, regulatory, and sanctions information.
• Perform sanctions and watchlist screening with approved resources.
• Search public records, news, court records, and business databases to validate findings.
• Prepare concise summaries highlighting findings and sources.
• Highlight negative information prominently for quick review.
• Investigate complex entity relationships and escalate when needed.
• Review finished research for accuracy and formatting before circulation.
• Maintain documentation and follow firm procedures for storage.
• Prioritize routine, urgent, and emergency research with deadlines.
• Assist with templates, process docs, and conflicts-related projects.
