Job summary

BNSF Railway is hiring a Network Software Engineer I/II for a fully remote US-based role. You will design, deploy, and optimize a converged IP network, collaborating with multiple teams to scale infrastructure across data centers, edge locations, and cloud environments.

The position requires strong networking fundamentals, automation tooling, and programming skills. Travel up to 20% and occasional visits to Fort Worth HQ may be required; sponsorship options are available for eligible candidates.

Qualifications

• Authorized to work in the US.
• Minimum of 2+ years of relevant experience.
• Experience designing and building large-scale networks.
• Understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and related networking concepts.
• Proficient with automation using Terraform and Ansible.
• Programming experience with Python.
• Experience with Linux and network OS such as Cisco IOS, SONiC, or Arista EOS.

Responsibilities

• Develop and operate cloud-native systems, networks, and services using GitOps workflows.
• Build and operate network infrastructure and management systems.
• Collaborate with internal application teams to improve infrastructure usability.
• Design and run systems that scale across data centers, edge locations, and public cloud.
• Participate in 24/7 on-call rotation and resolve production issues.
