Job summary

Block is remote-first and builds technology to empower sellers, individuals and artists worldwide. The Network Edge Security team uses ML, streaming analytics, and data analysis to improve API security and edge threat response across multiple brands.

You will work across Java, Kotlin, Python, TypeScript, and PySpark to build security tooling, data pipelines and integrations with AWS, Cloudflare, and Fastly, while evolving ML models for abuse detection and bot mitigation.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software or security engineering experience building scalable production software with testing and monitoring.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
• Proficient in Java, Kotlin, TypeScript, and Python.
• Proficient in SQL and Spark.
• Experience with CDN and AWS ecosystems; familiarity with Snowflake, Databricks and Datadog is a strong plus.

Responsibilities

• Respond to and mitigate emerging threats at the network edge using WAF rules and CDN-native tech.
• Build infrastructure to inventory network edge security posture.
• Develop near-real-time streaming analytics data pipeline and application.
• Contribute to ML model development and labeling.
• Manage CI/CD and production monitoring systems.
• Work across Java, Kotlin, Python, TypeScript, PySpark as needed.
• Evaluate and integrate with vendor and in-house solutions.
• Develop AI-driven capabilities to classify and mitigate abusive traffic patterns.
