Job summary

Placements24 seeks a highly analytical Remote Mining Data Scientist to drive innovation in global mining operations. This fully remote role focuses on leveraging big data to optimize exploration, extraction, and processing efficiencies.

You will work with vast datasets, develop predictive models, and extract actionable insights to guide strategic decisions. The ideal candidate has 5+ years in data science within mining or natural resources, advanced degrees, strong Python or R skills, SQL and

Qualifications

• Master's or Ph.D. in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, or related quantitative field.
• 5+ years of data science experience in mining or natural resources.
• Strong proficiency in Python or R, and data manipulation/visualization libraries.
• Proficiency in SQL and big data tech (Spark, Hadoop).
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and MLOps.
• Excellent communication skills to explain complex concepts to non-technical audiences.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement machine learning models for resource estimation, predictive maintenance, and process optimization.
• Analyze large datasets from geological surveys, operational sensors, and processing plants.
• Design and conduct A/B tests and statistical analyses to evaluate process changes.
• Create compelling data visualizations and dashboards to communicate findings to stakeholders.
• Collaborate with geologists, engineers, and operations managers to identify data opportunities.
• Stay current with advancements in data science, AI, and their mining applications.
