Job summary

Pitch Aeronautics Inc. seeks a Meteorology Software Developer in Boise, ID to combine boundary-layer meteorology, numerical weather prediction, and production-grade software development to operationalize forecasts that support our WireWeather line-rating products.

The role splits roughly between meteorology and software engineering: building and refining models (WRF, WindNinja, HRRR/GFS/ECMWF), integrating AI-based forecasts, and creating Python pipelines and APIs so utilities can rely on

Qualifications

• Advanced degree in atmospheric science, meteorology, physics, or related field.
• Proficient in Python and production-grade code practices.
• Experience with time-series and large environmental datasets.
• Familiar with GRIB2/NetCDF data and scientific Python stack.
• Ability to quantify forecast uncertainty and communicate results.

Responsibilities

• Develop and refine atmospheric models focusing on boundary layer physics and wind behavior.
• Integrate NWP and physics-based models for localized forecasting along power lines.
• Assimilate real-time observations to improve predictive accuracy.
• Collaborate with ML teams to merge physics-based models with AI approaches.
• Document methodologies and communicate findings to stakeholders.
