Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in English, communications, public health, nursing, or related field.
• 5+ years of experience in medical writing or health communications.
• Experience with clinical policy, utilization management, or payer environment.
• Knowledge of health literacy principles and plain language standards.
• Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading with attention to detail.
• Ability to balance regulatory compliance with readability.
• Experience collaborating with clinicians, policy teams, compliance/legal.
• Background in nursing or clinical practice preferred.

Responsibilities

• Draft and refine adverse determination reasons and communications in plain language.
• Collaborate with clinicians and policy writers for accuracy and consistency.
• Translate medical and policy content into patient-centered language.
• Ensure communications comply with regulatory requirements (CMS, NCQA, URAC, and state mandates).
• Maintain tone, readability, and user experience across documents.
• Support templates, style guides, and best practices for patient-facing content.
• Partner with informatics, clinical content, designers to capture and automate knowledge.
