Job summary

VA Loma Linda Health Care System is seeking an MRT (Coder) to classify medical data within the Health Information Management department. You will encode diagnoses and procedures, review EHRs for completeness, and ensure accurate data for research and reimbursement workflows.

The role requires knowledge of ICD, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems, with emphasis on accurate documentation and ongoing adherence to coding guidelines.

Qualifications

• One year of creditable experience illustrating knowledge of medical terminology and health records.
• Education or certification meeting health information management standards.
• Certification in coding (AHIMA or AAPC) is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Code diagnoses and procedures using ICD-CM, CPT, and HCPCS per guidelines.
• Review electronic health records to ensure complete data capture for care.
• Train staff on ICD and CPT coding practices and keep documentation updated.
• Monitor regulatory changes affecting coded information and reimbursement.
