Job summary

Duke University Health System is seeking a Medical Records Coder II for a 100% remote role within the Duke Health network. You will code complex records using ICD-10-CM and CPT guidelines, review documentation for accurate coding, and support training within the Patient Revenue Management Organization.

Required credentials include RHIA/RHIT/CCS/CPC/HCS-D certs (or active equivalents) and a high school diploma. Remote workers must reside in eligible states.

Qualifications

• Advanced ICD-10-CM & CPT-4 coding conventions.
• Anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology knowledge.
• Extensive DRG/APC reimbursement knowledge.
• Coding software familiarity.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Data entry proficiency (CRT).
• RHIA/RHIT/CCS/CPC/HCS-D certifications or equivalent active credentialing.

Responsibilities

• Review complex medical records and code using ICD-10-CM and CPT conventions.
• Coordinate/review work of subordinate staff and assist with training programs.
• Abstract information from medical records to ensure accurate reimbursement.
• Educate physicians and staff on coding practices and guidelines.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of anatomy, terminology, and coding guidelines.
• Perform related duties as required.
