Job summary

Munich Re US (Life) seeks a 2nd VP, Medical Director to provide medical consulting through case reviews, mortality/morbidity research, and underwriter training. The role will monitor medical literature for trends, revise underwriting standards, and serve as deputy to the Chief Medical Director.

Responsibilities include 50% case underwriting of life and disability products, 15–20% underwriter education, 15–20% R&D on guidelines and testing tech, 10–15% client relations, 5% claims review, and

Qualifications

• Must hold MD or DO degree and be board-certified in Internal Medicine or equivalent.
• Insurance Medicine experience with a track record in underwriting.
• Active medical licensure and ongoing CME compliance.

Responsibilities

• 50% Case underwriting across life, disability, and related products.
• 15–20% underwriter and physician education via webinars and trainings.
• 15–20% research and development of underwriting guidelines and tech assessment.
• 10–15% client relations and industry presentations.
• 5% claims review and medical-criteria evaluation.
• Maintain CME and state licensure; stay current with medical literature.
