Job summary

HCA Healthcare is seeking a Medical Coder to review medical record documentation and apply ICD-10-CM, E/M, and CPT/HCPCS codes in outpatient settings. You will align coding with HCA-ASD Policies and ensure updates to the 3M encoder are timely, while supporting preparatory activities for accrediting bodies and state reviews.

The role requires RHIT or RHIA certification and 2+ years in outpatient coding, with preferred experience in ambulatory surgery centers or clinics.

Qualifications

• Minimum (2) years’ experience in outpatient coding and/or Health Information Management required.
• Minimum (1) year of experience in a medical office setting highly preferred (i.e. ambulatory surgery center, hospital, doctors office).
• Completed coursework in Human Anatomy & Physiology, Medical Terminology, Introduction to Coding (including ICD-10 and CPT) preferred.
• Must provide certification from a recognized professional coding organization, transcript from an educational institution, or similar proof of successful completion.

Responsibilities

• Code outpatient surgery center records in a timely manner, including ICD-10-CM, E/M, Procedure Categories, and HCPCS/CPT codes.
• Code an average of 80-150 charts per day.
• Resolve codes and diagnosis with conflicting or unclear information by using the query tool to gather additional information.
• Ensure 3M encoder updates are timely and accurate.
• Bill cases by furnishing completed assessments of billing supplies and implants.
• Assist with preparation for accrediting bodies and/or state reviews.
• Review data quality standards, coding guidelines, and policies to keep coding knowledge current.
