Job summary

Aptive Resources is hiring remote professional fee coders to support Veterans Affairs medical centers in Georgia and Alabama. You'll code physician and provider services for hospitalized Veterans, plus surgical cases.

The VA expects about 4,500 inpatient professional encounters and 500 surgical encounters a year, mainly at the Atlanta and Birmingham facilities. Additional responsibilities include applying CPT/ICD-10-CM/HCPCS rules, utilizing VistA/CPRS/PCE workflows, and ensuring high accuracy

Qualifications

• Active professional coding credentials required (CPC/CCS-P/CCS/RHIT/RHIA).
• Minimum 2 years of professional fee coding experience, inpatient E/M and surgical procedures.

Responsibilities

• Code inpatient professional services and nursing home services using CPT, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS.
• Code surgical cases and apply global surgical package rules and add-on codes.
• Assign E/M categories/levels for inpatient and consult services per current guidelines.
• Apply NCCI edits and modifiers (e.g., 24, 25, 26, 51, 57, 59, 79).
• Adhere to VHA rules on billing supervision and teaching physician documentation.
• Review CPRS notes, update provider names in PCE or surgery package, enter codes in VistA.
• Flag incomplete documentation and ensure records are ready for VA review before billing.
• Maintain at least 95% accuracy and meet facility turnaround times.
