MU Health Care is seeking a Reimbursement Assistant to join the Financial Clearance – Surgery Team. You will extract data and apply ICD-9 CM and CPT procedure codes for accurate billing, coordinating with external agencies and departments to ensure correct claims and reimbursements.

Strong focus on interpreting healthcare documents, audits, and liaison work with payers. This role blends remote work and an on-site training period, contributing to patient care and revenue integrity.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in medical coding or related field required.
• Experience with ICD-9 CM and CPT coding preferred.
• Knowledge of medical terminology required.

Responsibilities

• Assist in presenting training on Medicare billing changes and coding standards.
• Coordinate billing and collections with departments and outside agencies.
• Screen medical records for claims-related liability and audit issues.
• Act as liaison between third-party payers and departments to resolve audit discrepancies.
• Assign codes for diagnoses and procedures for inpatient, outpatient and professional encounters.
• Interpret healthcare documentation to determine principal diagnosis and procedure.
