Job summary

MU Health Care seeks a detail-oriented medical coding professional to ensure accurate documentation, compliance, and reimbursement across clinical records. You will work with physicians, residents, and multidisciplinary teams to maintain regulatory standards and high-quality patient care.

Responsibilities include extracting data from clinical docs, applying ICD-9 CM and CPT codes, supporting audits, and assisting with Medicare billing changes.

Qualifications

• An associate degree in medical coding, medical office technology or other medical related area, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Knowledge of medical terminology is preferred.
• Experience in medical coding is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Review clinical documentation and diagnostic results to extract data and apply ICD-9 CM and CPT codes for billing and compliance.
• Assist in training sessions for residents and staff on Medicare billing and regulatory guidelines.
• Coordinate professional and technical billings/collections with university departments and outside agencies.
• Screen medical records for potential liability issues and audit discrepancies.
• Assign codes for diagnoses, treatments, and procedures to ensure accurate reimbursement.
