Job summary

Redtree Engineering is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to support front-end planning, detailed design, and construction administration for power generation projects. The role focuses on coal, natural gas, and gas-fired/ combined-cycle plants, with multiple openings across mid to senior levels and a remote, nationwide work arrangement.

You will lead mechanical scope, perform hydraulic calculations, and coordinate with vendors and internal teams.

Qualifications

• BS in Mechanical Engineering from ABET-accredited program.
• “5+ years” designing mechanical systems for power generation facilities (coal, natural gas, gas-fired, or combined-cycle).
• Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain is highly valued.
• Experience with hydraulic calculations, pump/piping sizing, and valve materials.
• Familiarity with mechanical, plumbing, and air quality/environmental codes and standards.
• Strong communication, organizational, and stakeholder-management skills; ability to work remotely.

Responsibilities

• Serve as technical lead for mechanical scope on assigned project areas coordinating with clients, vendors, and internal disciplines.
• Perform front-end planning, preliminary design, and code analysis for mechanical systems.
• Design and size mechanical equipment, piping systems, pumps, tanks, and vessels; perform hydraulic calculations.
• Develop and review P&IDs and support instrumentation selection and location.
• Coordinate with equipment manufacturers to develop specifications and resolve design issues.
• Prepare and review engineering design packages, bids, and specifications to ensure compliance.
• Collaborate with electrical, civil, structural, and project management teams to deliver integrated solutions.
• Provide field engineering support during construction, commissioning, and troubleshooting.
• Support scoping, budgeting, and scheduling for new opportunities; develop technical reports and drawings.
• Evaluate mechanical equipment condition, lifecycle cost, and future capacity requirements.
