Job description

We are sharing a specialised part-time consulting opportunity for advanced mathematics researchers and graduate-level experts to contribute to large language model evaluation through mathematical problem design, rigorous reasoning, computational analysis, formal theorem proving, and high-quality solution development.

Selected professionals will create and solve challenging mathematics problems, evaluate model-generated solutions, develop computational tasks using Python, and contribute to formal proof workflows using Lean. The work spans early undergraduate through Ph.D.-level mathematics and is designed to assess advanced reasoning, abstraction, proof construction, and computational accuracy.

Key Responsibilities
Advanced Mathematics Problem Development
  • Design original and challenging mathematics problems
  • Create tasks requiring abstract and multi-step reasoning
  • Develop proof-based and closed-ended evaluation problems
  • Cover mathematical topics across varied levels of difficulty
  • Align problems with specific model-evaluation objectives
Mathematical Reasoning & Solution Review
  • Solve complex mathematical problems independently
  • Produce detailed and logically structured solutions
  • Explain each conclusion with clear mathematical justification
  • Review model-generated solutions for correctness and completeness
  • Identify errors, missing arguments, and flawed reasoning
Computational Mathematics & Python
  • Develop computational tasks requiring precise numerical answers
  • Write reliable Python solutions for mathematical problems
  • Use approved scientific libraries where appropriate
  • Verify numerical outputs and computational results
  • Provide clear rationales supporting calculated answers
Formal Proof & Benchmark Development
  • Contribute to mathematics evaluation benchmarks
  • Translate mathematical statements and proofs into Lean
  • Develop formal theorem-prover tasks
  • Verify that formal proofs compile correctly
  • Support evaluation across undergraduate through Ph.D.-level curricula
Research Collaboration & Technical Communication
  • Provide detailed annotations and constructive feedback
  • Explain advanced mathematics in clear and accessible language
  • Communicate evaluation findings in a structured format
  • Collaborate remotely with research and technical contributors
  • Work independently while maintaining consistent project quality
Ideal Profile
  • Currently pursuing or holding a Master's, Ph.D., or postdoctoral position in Mathematics or a related field
  • Applied Mathematics and Statistics backgrounds are also relevant
  • Strong mathematical research and analytical capabilities
  • Ability to solve complex problems using structured logical reasoning
  • Expertise may include number theory
  • Combinatorics and discrete mathematics experience is relevant
  • Probability and statistics expertise is valuable
  • Familiarity with mathematical logic and foundations is welcome
  • Differential equations and dynamical systems backgrounds are relevant
  • Strong understanding of algebra, calculus, and analysis
  • Geometry and topology expertise is valuable
  • Comfortable with abstract and proof-based mathematics
  • Ability to explain mathematical concepts using simple language, visuals, and examples
  • Strong creative and lateral thinking abilities
  • Ability to provide detailed annotations and constructive feedback
  • Python programming capability is valuable for computational assignments
  • Familiarity with Lean or formal theorem proving is particularly relevant
  • Excellent written English communication
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently
  • Reliable desktop or laptop setup with a stable internet connection
Engagement Details
  • Part-time independent contractor / freelance engagement
  • Fully remote
  • Available commitment options are 20, 30, or 40 hours per week
  • Minimum commitment is 20 hours per week
  • At least 4 hours of work per day is required
  • Approximately 4 hours of overlap with PST is required
  • Work will involve mathematical problem design, solution evaluation, computational tasks, and benchmark development
  • Assignments may include Python-based numerical and computational work
  • Some projects may involve Lean and formal theorem-prover workflows
  • Mathematics content may range from early undergraduate through Ph.D. level
