Job summary

The American Association of Critical-Care Nurses seeks a Managing Editor (Remote) to lead editorial production for AACN journals, coordinating preproduction through postproduction with Editors in Chief, authors, and cross-functional teams.

You will ensure AMA-style scholarly content quality, manage workflows, and supervise timely delivery of print and digital publications, while upholding AACN standards and cost efficiency.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in English or related field; master’s preferred.
• 7+ years as managing editor of a print or digital STM journal or as a copy editor.
• Experience in a digital-first publishing environment.
• Proficiency in AMA style and scholarly content, with experience in peer review.

Responsibilities

• Leads end-to-end editorial production for AACN-owned and contracted print and digital publications.
• Collaborates with Editors in Chief, contributors, and stakeholders to ensure content quality and compliance with journal requirements.
• Develops and manages preproduction, production, and postproduction processes for copy, graphics, and digital content.
• Directs content development and assignments to align with editorial strategy and objectives.
• Ensures journals are copyedited and proofread to departmental standards.
• Leads publishing projects to ensure timely, high-quality outputs and cost-effectiveness.
• Provides leadership to maintain relevance of AACN’s publications and ongoing evaluation of publishing endeavors.
• Analyzes demographic and needs data to improve relevance and impact of publications.
• Interacts with Editors in Chief, authors, and publishing team to advance initiatives.
• Occasional travel may be required.
