Job summary

The Nature Conservancy seeks a Managing Director of Data, AI and Applied Technology to lead an unprecedented enterprise function. This role defines how data, applied technology, and AI drive mission and business value, while aligning governance, risk controls, and adoption across a federated organization.

The role reports to the COO with dotted lines to the CEO and CIO, and it will shape data stewardship, AI governance, and cross-functional strategy to deliver measurable conservation outcomes

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field; 10+ years of experience, including 5+ years in a senior, global context.
• Experience translating strategy into data/AI-enabled outcomes across a federated organization.
• Experience with governance, decision rights, adoption strategies, and benefits realization.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain enterprise data, AI, and applied technology strategies aligned to conservation priorities.
• Lead federated data ownership and governance across enterprise domains.
• Establish responsible AI governance, risk review, and acceptable-use guidelines.
• Build data literacy and governance culture across the organization.
• Manage budget and vendor contracts; partner with CIO and CEO offices.
