Job summary

The Rector & Visitors of the University of Virginia is seeking a Senior Hospital Inpatient Coder to code the most complex inpatient encounters in a leading academic health system. This fully remote position supports academic medicine, quality reporting, and regulatory compliance while collaborating with providers and CDI teams.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of inpatient coding experience.
• Certified Professional Coder (CPC).
• Experience with trauma, transplant, critical care coding.
• Ability to work remotely with independent judgment.

Responsibilities

• Assign ICD-10-CM/PCS, MS-DRG/APR-DRG, POA, and discharge codes for complex inpatient cases.
• Review records involving trauma, transplant, critical care, and surgical services.
• Apply advanced medical terminology and disease understanding to coding.
• Maintain standards for coding quality, productivity, accuracy, and turnaround times.
