Job summary

Illinois Legal Aid Online (ILAO) is seeking a Legal Content Director to lead the Content Team, shaping strategy and governance for legal information. You will supervise staff and volunteers, ensure content quality, and drive collaboration with Product and Community Engagement to deliver accessible resources across platforms.

You’ll monitor policy changes, maintain style guidelines, and lead efforts in SEO, GEO, and content discovery.

Qualifications

• Active Illinois law license or ability to become an active Illinois attorney.
• Minimum of 7 years publishing digital content, knowledge management, or legal content technology.
• Minimum 5 years supervising others, including staff, volunteers, and contractors.
• Experience working in or with legal aid, access to justice, or public interest legal services.
• Expertise in distilling complicated concepts into understandable, actionable resources.
• Experience developing or executing content workflows and using content management systems.
• Experience using Google Analytics or similar tools to evaluate content performance.
• Knowledge of or ability to grow expertise in search engine optimization (SEO) and generative engine optimization (GEO).
• Demonstrated experience leading complex cross-functional work involving people outside the candidate’s direct supervisory authority.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement ILAO’s legal content strategy.
• Govern ILAO’s legal content and knowledge.
• Lead the legal content team and its production.
• Contribute legal-content expertise to funding strategies and reporting.
• Attend periodic in-person meetings in Illinois.
