Job summary

Illinois Legal Aid Online (ILAO) is seeking a Legal Content Director to lead the content team, shaping strategies for accessible, accurate legal information. You will supervise five staff, ensure quality and usability, and collaborate across Product, Community Engagement, and leadership to deliver impactful resources.

Qualifications

• Active Illinois law license, or ability to become an active Illinois attorney.
• 7+ years publishing digital content, knowledge management, or legal-content tech.
• 5+ years supervising staff, volunteers, and contractors.
• Experience in legal aid, access to justice, or public-interest work.
• Ability to distill complex concepts into actionable resources.
• Experience with content workflows and content-management systems.
• Experience using Google Analytics or similar analytics tools.
• Knowledge of SEO and generative SEO (GEO) techniques.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement ILAO’s legal content strategy aligned with goals and user needs.
• Oversee content standards, quality, accessibility, and consistency.
• Lead and develop the Content Team, including staff and contractors.
• Collaborate with Product and Community Engagement teams on user research and usability.
• Monitor legal changes and keep content up-to-date and relevant.
• Represent content needs in organizational planning and cross-team initiatives.
• Participate in fundraising and broader organizational activities.
