Aven is seeking an experienced attorney to join a small, capable L&C team in California. You will interpret federal and state laws, draft disclosures and policies, and advise on risk across mortgage, HELOC, and credit products while collaborating with product and engineering teams.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctorate required with 7+ years of legal practice, including consumer finance regulatory work.
• In-house fintech, bank, or mortgage company experience is a significant plus.
• Strong familiarity with secured lending, marketing, and servicing laws.
• Ability to use compliance monitoring tools and regulatory databases.
• Excellent verbal and written communication and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Assist in ensuring compliance with federal and state consumer lending regulations (e.g., TILA, RESPA, ECOA, HMDA, FCRA, TRID).
• Monitor state-specific lending laws and licensing requirements.
• Develop and maintain compliance policies, procedures, and training materials.
• Conduct compliance reviews of loan origination, underwriting, and servicing processes.
• Perform periodic audits of disclosures, notices, and loan documents.
• Respond to customer complaints, regulatory inquiries, and internal situations.
• Research regulatory updates and reflect changes in policies and procedures.
• Collaborate with product and engineering teams to embed compliance in lending processes.
• Review marketing materials and loan disclosures for Regulation Z and UDAAP compliance.
• Assist in third-party vendor risk assessments for lending systems and processors.
