Job summary

Mission Lane is seeking a Principal Data Scientist to be the technical anchor for collections models, reporting to the Director, Data Science. You will own end-to-end models and define durable practices while collaborating with data scientists, consultants, and contractors.

The role blends data science with production-grade engineering and ML tooling in a remote-first environment, with equity participation and competitive compensation.

Qualifications

• PhD in a quantitative field with 3+ years in related role or BS/MS with 7+ years in related role.
• Has created, deployed, and managed supervised learning models in production systems for vital applications
• Shares best practices for software engineering and can help data scientists work through complex problems, especially operationalizing and evaluating models for real-world use
• Practices solid software engineering fundamentals (test-driven development, code review, refactoring) and works fluently in our core tech stack
• Interested in a wide range of ML tooling, from Spark, Kubernetes, Airflow, MLFlow to Chalk, BentoML, DVC
• Experience leading a workstream independently with guidance on priorities
• Ability to travel ~4+ times per year for in-person collaboration

Responsibilities

• Implementation of the data science roadmap for collections, as the primary technical point of contact
• End-to-end models that anticipate customer responses to outreach and guide approach selection
• Durable modeling practices that reduce reliance on external consultants over time
