Job summary

Referment, a UK online mortgage broker, is seeking a Lead Data Engineer to join a remote-first team. You will drive the semantic and MCP layers, design data transformations from raw ingestion into structured models, and codify business metrics with governed definitions.

You will implement automated data quality checks, contribute to dashboards, ensure FCA-regulated governance, provide technical leadership, mentor teammates, and collaborate with analysts, data scientists and product teams.

Qualifications

• Expertise in SQL, BigQuery, dbt and Python for data engineering.
• Experience building data pipelines and modern ingestion/transform patterns.
• Familiarity with semantic layer, MCP and AI coding tools like Claude Code.
• Strong engineering practices, tested code, Agile and Git proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Lead build-out of semantic and MCP layers and design data transformations.
• Translate business metrics into governed definitions in partnership with stakeholders.
• Implement automated data quality checks and governance in regulated fintech context.
• Contribute to internal dashboards and drive data quality initiatives.
• Provide technical leadership and mentor less senior engineers.
