Job summary

Pearson is seeking a Lead Specialist, Solution Architect to shape the architecture behind OnVUE, Pearson’s online proctoring testing platform, guiding multiple engineering teams across modernisation for secure, scalable delivery.

You will translate business needs into practical architecture, steer delivery from discovery to implementation, and mentor teams while influencing without formal authority. Remote within the United States.

Qualifications

• Progressive experience in software engineering or solution architecture.
• Strong Java enterprise architecture experience, including Spring and Spring Boot.
• Experience across front-end and back-end technologies, including Angular.
• Cloud-platform experience (Azure preferred; AWS also relevant).
• Kubernetes and cloud-native delivery experience.
• Designing and scaling reliable, distributed applications with good operational health.
• Third-party integration and API experience.
• Proven ability to lead technical decisions across multiple teams without formal authority.
• Strong communication, facilitation, documentation and mentoring skills.

Responsibilities

• Own solution architecture from discovery through production adoption.
• Translate business needs and constraints into secure, scalable designs.
• Set technical direction across squads and maintain architectural consistency.
• Guide teams through implementation while preserving architectural intent.
• Evaluate trade-offs across scalability, resilience, security and value.
• Resolve complex architecture and integration issues; escalate when needed.
• Establish repeatable technical patterns and ensure standards conformance.
• Mentor engineers and architects; communicate recommendations clearly.
