Job summary

Cannon Corp in Irvine seeks a highly skilled Principal Automation Engineer to grow automation solutions across multiple industries. This role blends strategic client engagement, technical leadership, and hands-on engineering to deliver high-quality automation projects.

You will mentor junior staff, manage project scopes, and ensure QA/QC while coordinating with cross-disciplinary teams to meet schedules and budgets. Strong background in control systems and PE license is required.

Qualifications

• Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering (preferred in Control Systems, Electrical, or Mechanical).
• CA PE License is required.
• 15+ years in control systems engineering.
• 8+ years in project management.
• 5+ years as a consultant.
• 5+ years in business development.
• 5+ years leading a team and resource planning.
• Experience with PLC programming across platforms (Rockwell, Modicon, etc.).
• Experience with SCADA HMI and historian software (Ignition, Aveva/Wonderware, FTView).
• Knowledge of network design, installation, and troubleshooting.
• Understanding of process instrumentation, procurement, installation, calibration, maintenance.
• Proficient with motor control schematics and P&ID drawings.

Responsibilities

• Identify opportunities and engage clients to grow automation services.
• Develop proposals, scopes of work, and schedules tailored to client goals.
• Build long-term client relationships for repeat business and cross-sector work.
• Lead automation projects from design through integration and delivery.
• Mentor junior engineers and ensure QA/QC on deliverables.
• Coordinate with vendors, subcontractors, and internal teams for seamless execution.
• Ensure compliance with codes and standards.
