Job summary

Cannon Corp in Ventura, CA seeks a Principal Automation Engineer to lead design, integration and delivery of control systems across multiple industries. You will engage clients, manage scopes and mentor junior engineers while growing billable work.

Requires a PE license, 15+ years in control systems, and strong PLC/SCADA expertise across Rockwell, Modicon, Ignition, and Aveva/Wonderware. On-site role with competitive benefits and growth opportunities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering (Control/Electrical/Mechanical) from an accredited college.
• California Professional Engineer license required.
• 15+ years of experience in control systems engineering.
• 8+ years in project management.
• 5+ years as a consultant.
• 5+ years of experience leading a team and resource management.
• Proficient with PLC programming in Rockwell and Modicon.
• Proficient with SCADA HMI and historian software: Ignition, Aveva/Wonderware, FTView.
• Experience with network design, installation, configuration, and troubleshooting.
• Understanding of process instrumentation lifecycle and design.

Responsibilities

• Supports client engagement and business development for automation opportunities.
• Leads design, integration, and implementation of control systems projects.
• Manages scope, schedule, budget, and risk with QA/QC oversight.
• Mentors junior engineers and coordinates with vendors and internal teams.
• Ensures compliance with codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
• Maintains backlog of billable work and supports workload planning.
