Job summary

Maximus seeks a Lead AI Systems Engineer to architect and deliver production AI software across enterprise and government programs. You will own end-to-end development, from exploration to deployment, and mentor junior engineers while shaping the engineering practices in a remote setting.

Ideally you have deep Python experience, cloud‑native design, and a track record of delivering scalable AI‑enabled solutions with strong emphasis on testing, security, and observability.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience in production systems.
• 3+ years experience with AI/ML.
• 5+ years cloud design in AWS/Azure/GCP.
• Experience owning software through deployment, production operations, troubleshooting, maintenance, and evolution.
• Strong fundamentals in API design, testing, source control, and secure development.
• US Citizenship required.
• Ability to obtain a Public Trust.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, ship, and operate production AI-enabled software systems.
• Own difficult technical problems from exploration to deployment and improvement.
• Write high‑quality code, APIs, services, tests, infrastructure, and tooling.
• Build AI-enabled apps integrating models, enterprise data, cloud services, APIs, and existing systems.
• Apply automated testing, CI/CD, observability, security, resiliency, and performance optimization.
• Evaluate emerging AI technologies through hands-on experimentation and determine practical value in production.
• Build reusable components, libraries, patterns, and reference implementations for other teams.
• Mentor engineers through code reviews, pairing, and design discussions.
