Job summary

Pearson seeks a strategic and hands‑on Lead Specialist- AI Scientist to design, build, deploy, and scale production AI/ML capabilities powering learner intelligence, recommendations, and knowledge graphs. You will bridge AI research, data science, software engineering, and product delivery to drive measurable learning outcomes.

The role requires 5+ years in production AI/ML, strong Python and cloud‑native experience, and collaboration across Product, Engineering, and Learning Science.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience building and deploying production AI/ML systems.
• Experience with Generative AI, LLMs, RAG, and knowledge graphs.
• Hands-on AI applications using modern frameworks and foundation models.
• Proficiency in Python and modern software engineering practices.
• Experience designing scalable AI platforms in AWS or similar.
• Experience with containers, orchestration, and IaC.
• Experience evaluating and optimizing AI systems for cost, latency, and safety.
• Experience with OpenAI, Anthropic, Bedrock, Azure OpenAI, LangGraph, LangChain, etc.
• Strong collaboration with product, engineering, and business stakeholders.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, development, deployment, and operation of production AI capabilities.
• Design and deliver Generative AI, LLM, RAG, and agentic AI solutions with measurable impact.
• Build reusable AI platform components and workflows for Pearson products.
• Own end-to-end AI delivery lifecycle from prototyping to production.
• Establish scalable MLOps and AIOps practices for governance and reliability.
• Partner with Product, Engineering, Design, Learning Science and Data Science teams.
• Evaluate emerging AI technologies balancing quality, safety, latency, and cost.
• Establish best practices for responsible AI, evaluation, and governance.
• Mentor engineers and data scientists to elevate AI engineering capabilities.
• Communicate strategy, architecture decisions, risks, and outcomes to stakeholders.
