Job summary

Humana is seeking a Lead AI Applied Engineer to provide technical leadership for AI-enabled products and platforms within a highly regulated healthcare environment. You will own architecture decisions, design and build critical components, and lead through both technical expertise and execution.

You will guide teams in architectural direction, establish engineering standards, and ensure reliability, auditability, and scalable delivery across large document processing systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in CS, Engineering, or related field or equivalent experience.
• 8+ years of software engineering experience delivering production AI-enabled systems.
• Experience integrating and operating LLMs in business workflows.
• Strong Python and/or TypeScript/JavaScript programming skills.
• Experience designing distributed systems and cloud-native apps.

Responsibilities

• Own architecture and evolution of full-stack AI applications including LLM pipelines, retrieval systems, and workflows.
• Design scalable AI solutions prioritizing reliability, accuracy, auditability, performance, and cost.
• Build and maintain high-risk, high-impact system components.
• Define and enforce AI engineering standards including evaluation methodologies and observability.
• Lead technical design reviews and guide platform capability decisions.
• Evaluate technologies, frameworks, AI models, and third-party solutions.
• Translate business goals into clear technical roadmaps and workstreams.
• Provide technical leadership across projects to ensure architectural alignment.
• Mentor engineers through reviews, pairing, and guidance.
• Partner with stakeholders to deliver regulatorily compliant solutions.
• Own deployment strategies, monitoring, incident management, and reliability.
• Ensure privacy, security, governance, and audit compliance.
