Job summary

Near is seeking a Lead Accountant to own a portfolio of five client accounts and provide accounting expertise, quality oversight, and mentorship to a team of 3–4 accountants. This hands-on leadership role combines full-cycle accounting, client management, quality review, and process improvement.

The ideal candidate is a strong technical accountant who can identify errors, communicate directly with clients, and help develop other accounting professionals in a fully remote setting serving

Qualifications

• 5+ years of accounting experience with hands-on full-cycle accounting.
• Strong understanding of GAAP and accounting principles.
• Experience with month-end/year-end close, journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
• Experience managing multiple clients, entities, or business units.
• Experience reviewing accounting work and identifying errors or inconsistencies.
• Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and mentor accounting professionals.
• Proficiency in QuickBooks Online.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent client-facing communication and relationship-building skills.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating with an accounting leadership team.
• Proficient English communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Manage approximately five client accounts and serve as a primary accounting contact.
• Perform and oversee full-cycle accounting, including AP, AR, payroll, credit cards, cash receipts, and general ledger activities.
• Perform and review month-end and year-end close, journal entries, and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Prepare and review monthly financial statements and management reports.
• Analyze financial results, trends, and variances and communicate findings to clients and internal teams.
• Review work completed by Senior and Staff Accountants to ensure accuracy and completeness.
• Coach, mentor, and provide constructive feedback to accounting team members.
• Support onboarding and training of new accounting staff.
• Identify opportunities to improve workflows, internal controls, SOPs, and operational efficiency.
• Partner with the Accounting Manager to improve processes, team performance, and client outcomes.
