Job Description

This Kitchen Helper position is responsible for maintaining sanitation standards, performing cleaning, maintenance, food preparation, stocking, and serving duties in a commercial kitchen, storeroom, dining, and serving area in remote camp locations.

Responsibilities

• Assist cooks and team members, coordinate activities within food service areas
• Maintain products at appropriate levels in preparation, serving, or storage areas, including service machines
• Stock food service areas with products and materials
• Clean dishes, utensils, pots, pans, and organize storage areas
• Wash objects by hand or with cleaning equipment
• Clean, sweep, wipe down all dining, kitchen, storage areas, spike rooms, equipment, and floors
• Participate in scheduled large cleaning projects
• Remove garbage from assigned areas
• Set up, break down, and clean tables, snack bars, display cases, and serving lines
• Occasionally prepare food or cook vegetables, entrees, coffee, sauces, or meats
• Perform other duties relevant to the department's success
• This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED preferred
• At least one year of experience in a commercial kitchen or vocational training demonstrating knowledge of cleaning equipment and food preparation
• Obtain an Alaska Food Workers Card and/or ServSafe Certification upon hire
• Pass pre-employment requirements including drug test, physical, and hearing assessment
• Ability to work cooperatively in a team
• Ability to make decisions with minimal supervision
• Ability to stand for 12 hours per shift
• Willingness to live in dormitory-style housing and meet cleanliness standards
• Proficiency in English (reading, writing, speaking)
• Adhere to safety guidelines and regulations

Candidates outside Anchorage and Fairbanks:

Pre-employment testing in Anchorage or Fairbanks; travel expenses are the responsibility of the employee. This includes safety training, physicals, and other testing.

Flights to Remote Locations: Employees cover expenses for reporting to Anchorage for trips paid by the company.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

Indoor/outdoor environment, frequently arctic conditions. Moderate to loud noise. Industrial kitchen setting in a remote camp.

Must be able to stand, walk, climb, push, pull, use hands, stoop, kneel, and crouch.

Travel by plane or bus to remote camps.

Physical Requirements

• Lift 50 lbs from floor to knuckle
• Lift 50 lbs from floor to waist
• Lift 35 lbs from floor to shoulders
• Stoop, twist, and touch toes repeatedly
• Kneel and stand, alternating knees
